Overview
The Uniqueen Monobenzone Cream contains Monobenzone USP 20% w/w. Monobenzone is a strong depigmenting compound that acts upon melanocytes. This product is not helpful in bringing back the color to the affected skin. In this procedure, the aim is to reduce the pigmentation in the healthy skin in the body so as to avoid any visible difference in the case of people who have disseminated vitiligo.
According to the prescribed use, monobenzone 20% is meant for use in the process of depigmentation in extensive vitiligo patients. Monobenzone should never be used in treating freckles, melasma, tanning, post-inflammatory lesions or skin bleaching. The reduction in pigmentation may be uneven, go beyond the site of application of cream and is always permanent.
Side effects may include redness, dryness, itching, irritation, burns or contact dermatitis. Depigmented skin provides limited sun protection and hence requires sun protection.
How to use
- Clean and completely dry the intended treatment area before applying the cream.
- Spread a thin layer over the pigmented areas two or three times daily, following the frequency stated on the prescription label.
- Keep the cream away from the eyes, mouth and irritated skin. Stop use if persistent burning, irritation or dermatitis develops.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sunscreen, as treated skin becomes highly sensitive to sunlight.
