Overview
Abbott Expigment Hydroquinone 4% Cream 30g is a cream which is meant to be applied in cases where there is hyperpigmentation. The mode of operation of hydroquinone is through reducing the production of melanin in the affected skin. This helps in making the dark spots from melasma, freckles, age spots, sunspots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation fade away. The effects will appear gradually depending on the cause of the pigmentation.The cream should be applied in minimal amounts to the affected areas according to the prescription given by the doctor or pharmacist. It should not be applied to areas close to the eyes, lips, nostrils, damaged skin, irritated skin or skin that doesn’t have the problem with the pigmentation. Hands should also be washed after applying the cream unless hands are the affected area.
Mild dryness, burning sensation, redness and irritation may occur as temporary side effects of Hydroquinone 4%. In case of any extreme pain, swelling, blistering or darkening of skin in bluish-black color, the use of Hydroquinone 4% should be stopped and the patient should immediately visit their doctor. Hydroquinone 4% should not ever be used together with any other exfoliating or skin lightening cream unless prescribed by the doctor. In case of pregnancy or breast feeding, one should consult their doctor about the usage of this product.
How to use
- Ensure that the skin is clean and dry before applying the drug.
- A small amount should be applied to the areas where the darkening is seen, generally in the mornings and at night times, as advised by the dermatologist. Do not apply near the eyes, lips or broken skin.
- Use of broad spectrum sunscreen is recommended during the day time.
