Overview
Uniqueen Monobenzone Cream 40% contains the active ingredient – monobenzone. It can also be called monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone. It is a strong depigmenting agent, working directly on the melanocytes that are the cells producing melanin. Depigmentation therapy cannot give back color to vitiligo spots, but it can slowly depigment the rest of the skin to match the coloration.
Monobenzone usually comes in 20% cream, however, some cases require prescription of a special solution that contains up to 40% of monobenzone. Due to its high content, the preparation should be taken in 40% solution only under supervision of dermatologist after full discussion of the treatment process.
The effect of monobenzone can be quite different among individuals. The pigmentation process can become rather slow, uneven, or spread onto other areas aside from the treated. Side effects may consist of redness, dryness, itching, burning sensation, irritation, contact dermatitis, sensitivity to light. Skin that underwent depigmentation becomes more sensitive to UV rays.
Uniqueen Monobenzone Cream 40% should not be positioned as a regular brightening or fairness cream. It is intended only for specialist-managed final depigmentation in suitable cases of extensive vitiligo. The product name, manufacturer, ingredient concentration and regulatory status should be verified from the original packaging before the product is listed or used.
How to use
- Gently wash the intended treatment area and allow the skin to dry completely.
- Apply a very small amount only to the areas specified in the prescription or product instructions. Spread it carefully without rubbing it onto nearby untreated skin.
- Wash your hands immediately after application and avoid contact with the eyes, lips, cuts and irritated areas. Monobenzone can cause permanent and uneven pigment loss, including outside the treated area.
- Protect the skin every day sunscreen and protective clothing.
