Tretinoin Gel 0.1% consists of tretinoin which is the derivative of vitamin A and is indicated for topical treatment of acne vulgaris. The mode of action involves stimulating normal skin cell turnover and stopping the buildup of dead skin cells in hair follicles. By keeping the pores clear, it reduces acne formation and may eventually decrease the number of current lesions.It comes in the form of gel and can be spread easily and might be suitable for oily/acne-prone skin. The recommended dosage of Tretinoin Gel 0.1% is thin layer application on affected area once a day in the evenings, following prescribed regimen. Using large amount or increasing the frequency of application does not result in faster action and causes more side effects.

Side effects include temporary irritation symptoms such as dryness, flaking, redness, warmth, burning/stinging especially at the beginning of therapy. Cleansers with harsh ingredients, scrubbing agents, alcohol-containing cosmetics and other aggressive products may cause irritation in combination with tretinoin.There may be increased sensitivity to the sun’s rays after the skin is treated. Therefore, proper sunscreen measures are vital all through the treatment period. Ensure that there is no contact of the treated area with the eyes, mouth, broken skin, and any other sensitive parts of the body.

How to use

• Apply the gel in the evening after washing the skin with a mild cleanser. Wait until the area is fully dry.
• Use only a small pea-sized quantity and gently spread it over the affected skin in a thin layer.
• Do not apply it around the eyes, lips, nose edges, open cuts or irritated areas. Clean your hands after use.
• Moisturise the skin if dryness develops and wear sunscreen during the daytime. Stop using the gel and seek medical advice if strong irritation or swelling appears.
